After a five-year hiatus a cast reunites as The Final Rule returns! Bigger, better, and improvier than ever - The Final Rules manifests now as two simultaneously occurring and, as always, completely improvised campaigns.
Justin Haflich returns as co-DM with Timothy Glenn Underwood. Between them the collaborating Players, Chase Bernard, Vincent Bianca, The Brendan Bice, Sophia Brazda, [player error - coming soon,]and Logan Naddy talk about our lived experiences in the interim time since Season Two and then roll random stats for what will be characters in Session 1. Session 1 will be livestreamed on the Arcadian Renaissance Theatre Creatives YouTube channel April 6, 2026, at 7:00 PM CDT.
A long, long time ago, in a place that seems far, but was always near, a group of people came together to revive something long, thought, dead, and in their quest they uncovered things not only about the world, but about themselves and each other.
SPEAKER_02This is a story of heroes.
SPEAKER_12Heroes who rose in a time when heroes were needed and did not shy away from the challenge they were presented, because ultimately they were what they were. People who wanted to see the best in everyone, people who wanted to see a world of equality and bravery and justice and integrity. This is a story about heroes.
SPEAKER_09This is the final rule.
SPEAKER_02Hello, hello, everybody, hello, hello, welcome, welcome. Uh, this is the um uh Arcadian Renaissance Theater Creatives uh Revival uh season three, if you will, of The Final Rule, uh completely improvised Dungeons and Dragons podcast. Uh I uh am uh Tim Underwood. Uh those of you who listen to the podcast back in the old days probably knew me as Glenn. Uh I go by both, but recently in professional life I am Tim. So hello, my name is Tim Underwood. It's a pleasure to to to talk with you. Uh we're gonna go one by one because we have some amazing collaborators that we are working on with this. Uh a lot of voices and names that I hope that you are familiar with if you ended up listening to the first the first second and then the second second season of the final rule. So we're gonna do just like a little general introduction. Uh let's start with uh an old uh a guest artist, actually, who uh is now coming back to be a mainstay player. Uh everyone, Sophia Brasda, what what a what a pleasure to have you here.
SPEAKER_08Hello! It's a pleasure to be here. Thanks for having me.
SPEAKER_02Oh, we are again, it's uh the moment that we were trying to figure out who we wanted to reach out to uh immediately after the people said no and you asked me. Yeah, yeah, exactly. You'd be surprised actually at the number of people who did say no first, but eventually you came up and uh you said yes for some reason. So uh welcome. Seriously. Uh I'm really, really jazzed to have you here. I think we all are.
SPEAKER_08Good to be here. I'm super psyched. It's uh it's a good group of good group of guys.
SPEAKER_02I uh yeah, about say guys is uh an unfair.
SPEAKER_00Everyone is morally good here.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, exactly. And that's what's important. I appreciate that. Well, since you go ahead and talking, uh hey Justin, it's been a long time. How are you doing, bud?
SPEAKER_06Hello. I almost said Glenn again, but uh, it's gonna be an adjustment for us all.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_06I've already changed your number on my phone. So holy cow, going crazy. But uh yeah, yeah. I hi, I'm Justin Haflick. Uh you may remember me from Toe. Um, and Kintorla, I think was the my Dragonborn Ranger's name. Yerp. Uh and I think there was someone else when we did the Blades in the Dark, but I I think that one got that one got real weird.
SPEAKER_10Deep cut. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Right, right. Oh, the real ones know. And the the real ones also that much.
SPEAKER_06That one never got put out. Yeah. No, it didn't.
SPEAKER_02I think it got streamed, but I like it was a VOD, but I think that was kind of it. We only did like the two episodes, and we were all like, you know, this is uh, you know, first hiatus, bam, stop. Yeah. Uh but Justin, uh, thank you so much for uh hopping back on. Uh you mentioned two characters that you had played in the prior seasons, but uh well, I mean, uh, by the point that this comes out, people will have known if they're paying attention to any of the social media, but uh, you have a new role this time.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah, no longer a player. I will be dungeon master of the second, not the lesser campaign, the second trail path, yeah, yeah, yeah. Adventuring party. And I promise you we'll be we'll be a much better than the other crew. I'd I'll just I'll just say it right here, right now. Be my we'll be we'll be we'll be up there. We'll be remembered as heroes.
SPEAKER_02So you know, Chase, I thought you would have cut his mic at this point because uh I don't think at that point basically failure.
SPEAKER_06I'm giving Justin some grace here, but like we'll see where we'll see where don't forget that's that's because he's hoping he's on uh he's on my campaign.
SPEAKER_08I was gonna say based purely on that, I need to be careful.
SPEAKER_02You're talking you're talking to the president and the treasurer of the organization that is uh I don't know, we're doing something, I think. Uh anyway, Justin, seriously, uh I I was really nervous to kind of talk about uh the initial idea because I knew that it would be kind of shifting things uh in ways that none of us really knew how it was going to go. But uh legitimately, whenever Chase and I were talking about it, you were the first person that came to mind of well, if no one else would be like into it, I think Justin would have a good time, so we should at least like bring it up.
SPEAKER_06Oh, I I always enjoy being a dungeon master, game master, whatever system, you know. I I have fun with it.
SPEAKER_02I get you. I mean, I I I think you and I kind of share in that joy where for a while I feel like I uh I was lamented the fact that I was always, you know, you say forever dungeon master, you know. Yeah. But uh now I now I think it's like you know, it's cool to be the one who fills in the gaps, you know?
SPEAKER_06Like uh the thing with being a dungeon master, especially if you because I've been doing a lot more like other systems uh lately, and the only way to get your friends to do other systems is to force them to.
SPEAKER_11That's so true. That's why I'm DMing my Starfinder campaign soon.
SPEAKER_06It's going to be a little Starfinder's so good. I'm actually actually in in my spell jammer rules for combat, I'm using star a bunch of Starfinder stuff and some Star Wars 5E stuff or SW5E, I think what it's the fact that he knows to list all the systems that really lets you know that like this is a this is a uh a game master that voidsey has some good stuff too. That's a supplement.
SPEAKER_02But I think you finally hit one that I didn't know, but like I like it. Uh Justin, seriously though, like I'm I'm really, really happy to have you as uh a DM. I think that we are going to tell some really cool stories, and like again, uh the fact that you came back is an honor, truly. Yeah, yeah, thank you.
SPEAKER_06We really appreciate it. Uh yeah, no, it's uh I'm a dad now, so it's it's it's com it's way different now. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Kind of about to say we're all we're all it's been what like uh shoot, like five years since we did anything.
SPEAKER_06Holy crap, do not say phases of life.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, but what other kids do the rest of us have to show for that?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, well, I'm north of 30, so uh yeah, yeah. We all have a pretty late.
SPEAKER_14You're too young to understand. It's okay. I gotta tell you Logan doesn't even know about.
SPEAKER_02Well, since you name dropped him, uh another uh guest who is returning now as a mainstay player, uh Logan Natty. Thank you so much again for accepting the invite. Uh, we're incredibly jazzed to have you back.
SPEAKER_03I'm I'm ecstatic that you let me return um under the provision that I'm on my absolute best behavior this time. And to be honest, I was I was really shocked when you were ready to give it another run around the block.
SPEAKER_02But uh shoot, I I was shocked that you agreed to be on your best behavior, especially since we said that if you never weren't, that we were waiting outside, ready to just storm right in, make it make it easy for all of us just by taking you out of the equation.
SPEAKER_03Well, you know, it was either this or Michelle Obama's uh DD podcast. My standing invitation for first lady was second only to this. So Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_02Well, you know what? I appreciate that. Uh, because that is uh that is quite the sacrifice that you made in order to be on here, but I am so happy that you've made it.
SPEAKER_03Um if we're name dropping, can I name drop Vincent?
SPEAKER_02Okay, well shoot, man. We might as well uh keep it going. Uh Vincent, uh, thank you. Walter Tang, everyone, ladies and ladies and gentlemen, everyone in the audience of all kinds. Walter Tang.
SPEAKER_04I forgot about him. I truly forgot about both of my characters names.
SPEAKER_02Uh I hope you I don't know if you remember this or not, but I named a pitcher plant uh after Walter, Walter Jr. I I owned the pitcher plant for a handful of years and it died in Colorado when I moved up there, unfortunately.
SPEAKER_04Uh that's pretty Walter Tang of him, gotta say. I know.
SPEAKER_02That's what I'm well uh unfortunately didn't quite find the same convictions to hold like to this world the way that I think Walter did in uh season one.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, Walter was tough. Man, hi I'm Vincent Bianca. Uh yeah. I've done Walter Tang in the first one, forget who I did for the uh second one, and forget who I did for the second, second one. Uh it was a good fun time all around, though. I'm happy to be back to do it again for a fun uh third slash fourth time.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and uh I'm really happy to have you back again. It's uh one of those things that this is a really great, I feel like for a lot of us, not only homecoming to the final rule, but just like being able to be around each other again, even if it's in a bit of a digital space, you know. Uh we made a lot of memories, and I'm uh again, the entire well, I I oh no, I'm gonna spoil it. I'm gonna spoil it. I can't do that. Uh but the fact that let's say so many of the original cast decided that this is worth their time in their uh later their their next stage of life from the the where we were when we did the last one. Uh I mean it means a lot.
SPEAKER_04Happy to be here. I'm really I'm really excited. I'm really excited to do it again.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, dude.
SPEAKER_04I haven't done DD in a minute, I've done improv in a minute, and it's good to see both continue in a digital space. I'm happy to see everybody.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely. Uh well I I guess I uh I can't contain myself. Uh the last original member of the of the OG crew, uh, but certainly in no way the least, uh, we managed to get the great Brendan Bice back to uh reprise a role as a uh consistent player in the final rule.
SPEAKER_11Like Brendan my agent could send you my runner and you could introduce me probably.
SPEAKER_05Oh yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh I I did uh I think I missed a punctuation point there, so I'll be like paying you that$100 fee. So I'm sorry about that. It's part of his contract.
SPEAKER_11It's how it gets it's how the agent gets paid. That's all right.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. Uh but welcome, welcome. Uh I hope you're looking forward to things. I know I certainly am.
SPEAKER_11I'm stoked. I haven't improvised in a well, aside from like shoddy DMing uh from my previous DD campaign, I haven't improvised in a while, so I'm looking forward to it.
SPEAKER_14We'll get ready for that all over again. I know, that's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_02It's never gonna stop at this point. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_11Uh unless and unless I'm a bird. Then it'll stop. That is true. Yeah, yeah. That's so true.
SPEAKER_14Swole bird.
SPEAKER_02Uh I think that that's that's everyone, right? I haven't missed anyone in the party, certainly not from the original cast. Definitely.
SPEAKER_05Well, I well, I you know, I would say no, I think there was there was one more that one more being me. No, no, I introduced myself at the beginning, Chase.
SPEAKER_02That's uh Chase, Chase, welcome, uh Chase Bernard, president of Arcadian Renaissance Theater Creatives. Welcome to the podcast. You would never know, you would never know, right?
SPEAKER_14Uh uh welcome, welcome, yeah.
SPEAKER_05I mean, I'm I'm Chase Bernard, uh, president of the Arcadian Renaissance Theater Creatives, uh, one of the original cast members of the Final Rule. Super excited to be busting through this and have so many great ideas, and I'm really hoping we'll be able to bring them to fruition, especially with these two campaigns and getting the Discord bot running and getting uh some other fun stuff to get uh guest artists to be able to improvise characters on the spot. I'm very excited about that stuff. Um I am too, yeah. Yeah, it's gonna be awesome. Um, but uh I'm I mean I played let me let me think back. I played in uh the second campaign, uh Garavanus Tarkata, uh which was the other Tortle, and then the original campaign was Dorvis. So the uh Yeah Dorvis, right? Oh my god, I missed that character. I had a really fun time playing him. Yeah, um the what, like eight intelligence uh wizards, I think it was six intelligence wizard. It was it was crazy because it was like he was a half orc, but he was a wizard, so it was very strange. And I had this whole elaborate backstory about how he became a wizard based on like accidentally like destroying his hometown through a demon pact, but that was great.
SPEAKER_02And it's crazy that it was all improvised, huh, at the end of the day. Yeah, that was nuts.
A Completely Improvised DnD Podcast(s)!
SPEAKER_08Guys, that sounds really fun. Why don't we just do that that again?
SPEAKER_02Well, Sophia, that's because the final rule is a completely improvised Dungeons and Dragons podcast. What? Can you explain further? I I'm I am shocked you would ask such a thing. But yes, I can. So the way that this works, right? Uh Justin and I, though we are the dungeon masters, are not going to do any prep. Uh, any given campaign, I have given very explicit instructions for everyone involved for any given session, uh, that their job is to show up on time, make sure that their internet works, and play DD, right? Uh, and that includes both myself and Justin, too. Uh it is whenever I say completion.
SPEAKER_06That was probably one of the hardest parts as being the player because I was always a planner. Half of my characters I have leveled up to level six. Of course, I will never play them because I'm always dungeon mastering, but I'll throw them. Yeah, yeah. Well, you know, you know. But yeah, yeah, no prep. No, I have no idea what's gonna happen in this next session. Same as all the players.
SPEAKER_02Uh, and it's uh I I'm really interested too to see your uh DMing style. Uh I feel like we always talked about doing like little side things, but I don't think we ever actually did.
SPEAKER_06Oh I'll I'll I'll I'll do side quests all day, man. I've that my yeah. West Marches is kind of my uh my favorite kind of form right now. So trying to get more into that. And I was starting, I was creating the idea a year ago before Critical Roll even announced it. Couldn't wait until you couldn't even wait until the first episode to name it. I was waiting until DC twenty was a little bit more fleshed out so that my players had more options and could level up, okay?
SPEAKER_11That just took a year for them to get to level four, so well you lose after critical role already started because we're gonna know that you're a fraud and it's after you're right, you're right.
Session 0 Overview
SPEAKER_02Uh but that is not the only thing that's improvised. It's not just the story, it's going to be the characters too. Uh the player characters uh during this session zero are going to get all of their stats, and that is what they're going to know about their characters. And of course, in traditional DD uh fashion, those stats are rolled. Uh, if the players were not prepared with their own dice or are not quick enough to manage to pull up a dice roller online without uh exiting this Discord call that we are recording, then I get to roll for them. So uh I hope that you enjoy that. Um but just take your word for it. Better have a hot order, buddy.
SPEAKER_00That's crazy. That's awesome.
SPEAKER_02Listen right here. You hear all that?
SPEAKER_00Ooh, I hear the clicky click.
SPEAKER_02That's five D6 rolling around in my hands, right? I hear dry beans.
SPEAKER_04Dry beans, because we are gonna be rolling you know, five D sticks or dry beans sticks. Wait, no, hold on. Is it dry beans and sticks? No, it's four, it's four d four.
SPEAKER_02I have well I had sticks. That was the sound of five, but I but that means I also have four. This is the sound of four.
SPEAKER_06It's a little bit that is math.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it is too. So uh we uh we are gonna be rolling for our stats here, and everything else is gonna be decided between now and the time that we uh record our uh first actual session. Uh, we will be generating the player sheets also based off of random roles for things like origin and class uh background as well. So we will be generating those character sheets and probably posting them on social media. Uh, and whenever the players come in for session one, they'll be the first time that they are stepping into the roles of a character who is only numbers and bubbles filled into a blank character sheet, nothing else. Everything from that point forward, from both the DM and the player's point of view, is going to be created on the spot from NPCs to combat encounters to dungeons themselves. It is a completely improvised Dungeons and Dragons podcast.
SPEAKER_08It's also similar to how we all begin in life.
SPEAKER_02Wow. No thoughts. Just just taking it as you get it. No, no, no. If you know who has my character sheet, I need to look. I need to I need to look at that right now. I have some stuff.
SPEAKER_08I will never divulge that information to you.
SPEAKER_06Someone definitely stole my starting gold then. Oh yeah, me too.
SPEAKER_02Uh okay, everyone. Uh well, uh, in order to make this work for this session zero, this is the way we're gonna do it, okay? Uh within moments, basically, uh, once I finish this ex explanation of how this is going to work, uh Justin and I are going to be hopping magically into a separate Discord channel. Uh at that point, if this main general channel will be for the players. You guys get to talk about literally whatever you want to, where you are in life, things that you want to promote about what you are doing. Uh, any information that you want to give, anything you want to lie about, now is your time. Really get people guessing because that's part of the fun. Uh spread rumors about the other players, of course. Now's the time. Now's the time. They can't prove you wrong.
SPEAKER_05Thank God someone said it. That's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_02Uh, I want chaos. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_06That's what I want.
SPEAKER_02Justin and I are going to be summoning the players one by one into that different call, and we are going to be talking for exactly 10 minutes, after which point they are going to be forced into the other general call, and we'll be accepting a new player. And we'll be talking about it.
SPEAKER_08Everything that we say in the private call is completely private, right?
SPEAKER_02You said that in the email. You said it's legally. Well, luckily, that email, uh, there's no proof that it ever existed server-side, because I have access to those. So uh you you you tell me.
SPEAKER_04I want to break so many NDAs and I'm in there. I'm ready to tell all my trade secrets.
SPEAKER_02Vincent, you have no idea how excited I am to get you in the private room, and then to get you back out into the general chat after.
SPEAKER_14Oh Lord.
SPEAKER_02But uh because of uh the fact that we have five players, we are going to have two separate campaigns, one with three players and one with two players. But there's a special surprise, of course, because we are the final rule, and we'd like to invite guests artists on to collaborate with us uh in order to help to spread the sort of uh exposure that we all get as artists, right? And it's about kind of who's watching us. An artist is in fact nothing without their audience. So for the campaign that has two uh recurring players on it, they are also going to have the great fun and pleasure of introducing the guest artists and having them uh roll into the narrative as it is being told as a character who is a part of the scene that's being told, right? Uh Chase has worked on ways that as we are going in any given campaign, if a player wants to jump in as, say, a random guards person or the barkeep behind the bar, they can roll a character on the spot and start playing immediately. So that's going to be the sort of joy of uh the two-person campaign. Um, I I think it's a really cool idea. I'm really happy that uh again, this I I think I think the final rules is a fun thing and it makes me laugh every time.
SPEAKER_06Three Z, baby. Three Z's. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Uh the tech is finally here to allow for guest artists to immediately improvise on the spot. We didn't think we'd get there, but we got there. Exactly.
SPEAKER_02Uh, so uh Justin, whenever you are ready, you and I are gonna go ahead and hop into the other call. Uh, we are going to find a way to randomize who we're calling in at given at any given point, and then one of us will hop back in here and uh summon that player to the other chat. Does that sound good? Or you just pull them.
SPEAKER_06Um ready.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah, I guess we could just pull them too. I just click and pull them one. In the middle of a sentence, just give me a game. Yeah, there you go. Perfect.
SPEAKER_04I actually like that a lot. That's just uh players.
SPEAKER_02Behave yourself, okay. Remember the DMs are not there to be your parents, they're there to help tell the story. So whenever we leave, I hope that there's no rabble rousing, no rough housing. I hope you all treat each other with equity and respect. Right? Of course. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04100% equity and respect.
SPEAKER_08Again, I want to refer to the email.
SPEAKER_06Don't worry, call me if you get in any trouble.
SPEAKER_05Well, there they go. But there's there's a guy. I don't know who that is.
SPEAKER_04Alright, now it's my turn. So now we're gonna all do our own DD podcast outside of this. Oh yeah, I was waiting for Vincent to say it. Now that they're gone. Welcome to the Shadow.
SPEAKER_03You have no idea how bad I want to be in the B plot. Oh man. Oh my god, dude. I want to be I want to be off-road so far.
SPEAKER_08The worst version of this show is it Logan and I end up being the group of two and the B plot. That is the worst version of this show where it's just a continuation of our like home life.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, of your already existence. But now it's just now you're just in separate rooms on your uh separate computers improvising.
SPEAKER_05Let it be said though, I still think it would be funny to have Logan as a one-person like campaign and like just his antics bleed into the other part.
SPEAKER_03I'm dead ass not even joking. I will get a full body camera set up and do I will act out the whole thing. I'll do it.
SPEAKER_08Put Logan in a motion capture suit.
SPEAKER_05We can get an animator out. Let it be said Logan is now standing up and just moving very close to the webcam.
SPEAKER_04I I think another funny thing to have this is this is kind of seen at some BM Media, but like the B plot just following just behind the A plot. It's like, oh man, this bandit camp looked like it was destroyed. Correct. All the good loot's gone, cool.
SPEAKER_05So I got I I am very curious to see what the DMs do when it comes to like things that one party has done that another party stumbles into if we wind up being around the same place. I'm curious if they're gonna be able to be like, like, why is this whole camp decimated or like like there's just a huge crater here?
SPEAKER_11Or like things someone someone pissed on the fire to put it out and it stinks. You guys know it was super inconsiderate passing through here. It's really bad.
SPEAKER_05Why are there just clothes on the ground?
SPEAKER_08Yeah, what happened over here?
SPEAKER_05What happened?
SPEAKER_08You can tell a bunch of really unfunny people just walk through this area. No one had a good time.
SPEAKER_04Just ragging on the other party. Oh man. Yeah, that would be funny if one group was like tracking the other.
SPEAKER_01Brendan Vice! You have been summoned to talk to the council. Come into the other chat.
SPEAKER_11Very well.
SPEAKER_07Jesus.
SPEAKER_11Don't buy any other MLMs until you're back.
SPEAKER_04Alright, so my MLM then's that guy.
SPEAKER_02Brendan, welcome. Uh, this will be on the test.
SPEAKER_11I didn't study, but uh I'll I'll improvise the hell out of it, dude.
SPEAKER_02Look, all I'm saying is I'm pretty sure like only one person in this call did not graduate from college, and it's not uh either of you. Uh anyway. Is this on the is this being recorded? No, no, no. Uh I will I will uh anyway. Uh what I'm going to say is, Brendan, legitimately, I am incredibly excited uh that you are going to be participating here with us. Uh legitimately, I was wondering uh whenever Chase and I were kind of tossing the idea back and forth about doing this under the umbrella of Artsy, uh, how many of the original cast like would actually be interested in coming back. But um again, it's it's really heartwarming to see that something about it kind of captured captured you and you wanted to to see what else we could do with it.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, I really I think I was like, I don't know if I was talking to myself or talking to my girlfriend while we were doing the dishes or something, but the I see a lot of let's plays on my feed, either like YouTube or Spotify or something, and a lot of them I feel like that's the one thing that Final Rule had was like the how the novel idea of like truly everything is improvised. It's kind of a given that D D or a large chunk of DD is improvised, but to go from like you know, end to end improvising everything is is what I think made made the group special. And it was yeah, it was it was crazy to like to get the text from from Chase and be like, we're we're all coming back. So and I'm here for it. I I don't really uh me and me and I I think I can speak for Justin as well. We both work desk jobs now, we're kind of detached from the artistic side of everything.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_11And uh us being uh us improvising is mostly uh in a closed space in a Discord call.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, right here right here in my basement, baby. Yeah, in the corner.
SPEAKER_02Uh yeah, but uh what's it like? You know, I know you're I know you're you were happy to see it, but now that it's actually happening, you know, being recorded again, uh you know. Well how how how's it feeling for you? Uh I realize my mic kind of sucks.
SPEAKER_00Or like it's not a screen.
SPEAKER_02I think I said it in the pre-chat, but like, man, if if we still had fans after season one.
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_02Like whenever half the time, like one of us was in a car and we were just like, hey, I have like these really shitty like wired headphones. Like, is it okay if I record?
SPEAKER_06It's like, yeah, man, like we're just doing this for we're just and we just had this mic I'm using right now just on Omni and in the middle of the big table. I remember that too.
SPEAKER_11It'll work, it'll work. It'll pick everybody up.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and uh again, it's like uh during uh a different uh during our creative showcase this past month. Uh I think one of my collaborators called us scrappy as a theater company, and I kind of like that idea, you know. I felt like the final rule was scrappy, that was its charm, you know?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, hell yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think so. Yeah, but uh uh it's interesting again, though. Like uh I'm gonna I'm probably gonna be talking a lot uh because it's just on my mind at least, like the um coming back together like this. Yeah, like it it's it's fun to see everybody now, like as we're all either have transitioned or are transitioning into sort of that next phase of life. Uh I think that's really the thing that is interesting most to me is to see like what kind of things that we like what do we bring to the table now that it has been like what like five years, right?
SPEAKER_11Yeah. It's been a long time. And I I feel like I like I uh haven't done I've like tried to pick up hobbies uh in the past few years to like stay creative, but like the the improvisation has uh I haven't done it like aside from like normal DD. I haven't done like any like a lot of like improvising. So I'm like I'm a little worried about stretching the the old muscles and seeing uh seeing what what what's left, what's left in the tank.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah, for sure. And uh yeah, my my biggest thing probably is uh is finding time to be away from the house. Because now I got wife and the son and another on the way, and like I'm not gonna go out and you know join an improv club and be away from them the ears that I have the one to two hours before he goes to bed. Uh but uh but you know, it here at home playing D D and building like worlds and systems and stuff like that with uh with T T RPGs is uh is is like really the best creative thing and the most convenient creative thing, honestly. Uh uh I can really do expressions. Yeah, you uh exercise.
SPEAKER_02And you both mentioned I I honestly I have not like really done almost anything with DD other than like pick up the new rule books and just kind of read through them since the last time that we did the final rule. Um but both of y'all like both about say both of y'all have been talking about like the RPGs that you've had experience to. How have those like new systems kind of influenced where you're at now as a player in a DM?
SPEAKER_11Justin, do you have anything about DC twenty? I'm I've I'm stuck with 5e because it's boring and I've refused to learn.
SPEAKER_06No. No, I've uh yeah, I've the one I've been really on the kick for, it's still in the development, and I've been having a lot of fun like watching the development with it, is like DC20 by the the dungeon coach, which is like an action point system. Uh and the first time I had seen an action point system was with Devinity Original Sins 2. And that scam made me really like action points are so cool because you can you know move take around turn to move.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, just in case though, can you explain what an action point system is versus something like D?
SPEAKER_06So instead of having these specific actions, like you have your movement action, your action, and your bonus action, what you have instead are uh three to four action points. Uh Pathfinder does it, DC20, and there's a lot of other uh Nimble, the new uh uh like fast-paced combat system that's a supplement for D5E also does it. But with basically you can spend action points to do certain actions. Let's say movement, you move your normal movement with an action point, attacking takes an action point. If you're doing like a big AoE spell, maybe that just takes two action points. Uh and it becomes a lot more flexible with uh player's turn, they can be a lot more creative and they don't feel like they waste any of their action economy. Because with D, what a lot of classes feel are they, you know, if they don't have something on their action as their bonus action, they kind of feel like well.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, and they integrate things.
SPEAKER_06And DC20 integrates reactions with that, and you use your reaction as a part of your four action points on that next turn. Yeah, yeah. So you can use it.
SPEAKER_02Is it like an overwatch on like XCOM where it's like you set something and it happens on a reaction trigger kind of thing? Kind of.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, you have you have yeah, you have basically uh features that can uh proc like tax of opportunity or like raising your shield, and then that takes away from your turns action points, and then basically when it comes your turn, you have one AP. So basically everyone has the same amount of of action economy throughout the whole turn if they don't lose one reaction they got four.
SPEAKER_02Um and then DD skews in the opposite direction where it's like some like eventually all classes basically have two actions or some way to get two actions. And it's like that's sort of the scaling versus like being able to do more with like an action economy. That's super interesting.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh again, I've played I played Divinity Original Sin too, and I was like, I don't remember much of that game.
SPEAKER_06That's that's my sell for uh for any of my buddies, is like it's it's it's a lot like Divinity's kind of the framework there. There's a lot of other stuff you can do, but uh, but yeah, no. Uh that uh I've been um uh Starfinder, Brendan and I have played that for a while.
SPEAKER_11Starfinder, I DM'd the starter campaign for it, and people like the vibe of it, but whenever we it's like the starter beginner box is what it is. Is it the 2e? The first edition. Oh dang, of course, obviously, yeah, yeah. Perfectly timed as far as like spending money on Starfighter goes. But everyone, I think, kind of digged it. It was a little bit difficult more than like more difficult than 5e, which was refreshing. But everyone got kind of jammed up, and there's just a lot of bad roles whenever we got to the like the I think the capstone of the beginner adventure, which is the ship combat.
SPEAKER_02And I think that's where my first campaign and uh and it ended too was because it was just like it got so crunchy so fast.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, no grueling, and not even like grueling, like, oh man, this is like tense, but like I shoot, I miss. All right, I have to wait for like the engineering turn, the captain turn, like the other ship's turn, and then it's gonna be like 15 minutes before I roll a three and miss again. And like everyone's rolling bad, everyone's like, I don't want to do it. We can play without the ship stuff, we can still play. It's like nah, I don't want to do it anymore.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah, well, it's it's hard, you know. Like, and especially transitioning systems because like they all have different strengths, they all have different weaknesses, and it's like kind of about what story you want to tell, you know. Like uh the system should match the narrative instead of like the other way around, you know. Once yeah, but uh Brendan, I I'm curious. Uh what what are you kind of expecting out of this season? Just like more of the same, or uh do you think that like new perspectives, new players are going to kind of offer a little bit of extra pizzazz for you?
SPEAKER_11I think a little a little bit of like the yeah, like the the new the not entirely new, but like new that there are like more permanent players is gonna be a little old. Yeah, I've also like I've just kind of like I like with age, I've just kind of mellowed out a lot. I feel like when we last played, I was unhinged as to now. I'm quite hinged.
SPEAKER_02So I feel that, yeah, yeah. But at that point, whenever like whenever Chase and I were tossing it around, I was like, dude, I'm in so much better of a position than I was five years ago, much less when we first tried this. Like, we're like, it's time to if we're gonna do it, like we're gonna do it, you know.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh, but I feel that, you know, again, I think that's gonna be a kind of common theme is the way that we grow as people, just like by experiencing life, is uh, I mean, it it directly influences everything, much less how we play DD, you know? Yeah, absolutely. I uh yeah, yeah, go ahead. Yeah, I'm just saying, uh my your 10 minutes is up, unfortunately, because I'm otherwise I'm legitimately gonna yap with like every person here for half an hour.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, you need to roll your yeah, yeah, yeah. Do it. Like, I'm like, we gotta we gotta stop toss that over to adjust and then we're gonna talk about details. Yeah, I know. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Do you have a dot? I've got them. I've got them. I'm ready. Are we going straight down the line? Like strength. We're going straight down the line.
SPEAKER_02You may you may choose after you see the results and announce the result of a roll whether or not you are going to use your one re-roll, but you must take whatever you re-roll.
unknownDamn, bro.
SPEAKER_11Sound good? One re-roll for the all the four D6?
SPEAKER_02One re-roll for any given yeah, for the result, and you're doing four drop the lowest, right?
SPEAKER_11Getting my dice next to the mic here so you're gonna get a low ASMR. Are you guys ready? Ready. Oh, that's not bad. 10, 13. And we're we're 1046, drop the lowest of the D6, right?
SPEAKER_02Yes. Your highest that you can ever get is an 18.
SPEAKER_11Okay.
SPEAKER_02That's a 13 for the first one. Alright.
SPEAKER_11So we have a 13 on strength. Are you going to re-roll that? I'm gonna keep it. Let's go to decks. Here's decks. Oh, I'm gonna re-roll that. That's three ones and a three? I'm gonna re-roll that. Okay, cool. So you have used your one re-roll.
SPEAKER_06Oh, with much of mom and fanfare. I mean, three three ones and a three, I'd say that's a good use of it.
SPEAKER_02And before a four constitution, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_11Please, no. That's better. That's 12.
SPEAKER_02A 12? Okay. 13 strength, 12 decks. You might be looking at a spellcaster, maybe.
SPEAKER_11Maybe. Or just uh a layman. Just a very we love a guy. This is this is better. Okay. This is my con? Great. Okay. 17. 17 con. Yes, they can.
SPEAKER_02So very healthy and very average. What about their intelligence? How are they?
SPEAKER_09Oh yeah. Come on. Twelve?
SPEAKER_02Holy cow. The healthiest person that's just a regular guy, otherwise. Uh wisdom. What about wisdom?
SPEAKER_09That's actually not bad.
SPEAKER_11Four, four, two. That's ten. Ten wisdom. Why am I flame chain over here, guys?
SPEAKER_02Except for the fact that you are very resistant to poison for some reason. Yeah.
SPEAKER_11I've got a I don't get sick and I I I take really good care of myself.
SPEAKER_13Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_11Alright, charisma. Charisma's not bad. 14.
SPEAKER_02Oh wow. Wow.
SPEAKER_06That's no negatives there.
SPEAKER_02Honestly, what a what a great starting character there.
SPEAKER_06Brendan. That right there is a 13 in strength, a 12 in dexterity, a 17 in con, a 12 in intelligence, a 10 in wisdom, which is your lowest stat, which is crazy. But good. Crazy to other people, maybe charisma.
SPEAKER_02That's uh that's a good even spread. Uh Brendan, again, thank you so much. I'm super excited that you're part of this. Like legitimately, it's great. Uh we're gonna kick you back out to the general chat and then decide which team you're on and not tell you. So congrats.
SPEAKER_11Okay, are we doing are we doing origin and class tonight? Or that's we talked about it a thousand times, but my yeah, no worries.
SPEAKER_02Uh no, uh Justin and I are going to roll those and just build the character sheets between now and uh the next session so that you will you will only know what your stats are.
SPEAKER_11Good god. And my name, hopefully.
SPEAKER_06I guess we'll see about that. You'll know your name. I'm moving you back to the session one, but it's not me. All right.
SPEAKER_11Oh god. Alright, guys. Don't be jealous. I don't am I allowed to tell you guys what my I don't I no no no.
SPEAKER_05I don't think I don't I don't think we should we should keep it secret.
SPEAKER_11I want to say I'm not gonna say what they are, but let me just tell you this. I'm pretty good at everything. Oh no.
SPEAKER_03Tim said you were supposed to tell me what your stats are.
SPEAKER_11So you just Okay, I'll pull you into the Patreon chat. Can I pull it? Whoa, hold up. I can't I can't pull who gave me admin privileges.
SPEAKER_05I think we also I I will I will admit that um I accidentally I've gotta fix the roles.
SPEAKER_06Sophia, you're being called into the principal's office. Sophia. Sophia, please come to the principal's office.
SPEAKER_08We fucking called it, guys!
SPEAKER_05Uh wait. Oh, oh no, yeah, Sophia's getting called.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna make a count now. Alright.
SPEAKER_02Sophia Brost, welcome to the the count the words of the council. You shall hear. You know what I mean? That kind of thing.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, no, that's great.
SPEAKER_06You are now being judged.
SPEAKER_08I've literally waited my entire life to be judged by a proper council. I'm excited to see the council's findings.
SPEAKER_02Uh I am too. Uh if you want like a copy of the stenographer's thing, like yeah, no, totally. What do they do, like reports or whatever? Yeah.
SPEAKER_08I always imagine. Yeah, they they write everything that you say or think or whatever. We had a really funny Second City sketch that never got off the ground where I was the courtroom thought stenographer.
SPEAKER_10I like that. That's good.
SPEAKER_08But it was just kind of me just being really overstimulated for like five minutes. Yeah. Because I got everyone in the courtroom's thoughts.
SPEAKER_02That's there's something there. Sophia, talk to me about the creative showcase uh at some point later because I think we can work together on this. Let's do it. Cool. Yeah. Uh, but welcome. Uh how's it feel uh now, five years after you were a guest, I believe. How does it feel to come back?
SPEAKER_08Five years? Oh my god.
SPEAKER_02I know, I know.
SPEAKER_08Um, dude, it it feels great. I um I remember guest uh spotting that that first time and I was so nervous. Um I was reminded by Chase just minutes ago that I I think I'm one of the only episodes with a with a warning because I fully disembowel the man.
SPEAKER_02That is true. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_08For the detailed like autopsy.
SPEAKER_02Yes, I remember that too. Yeah. Uh the disemboweling sticks out particularly. Uh just because I remember, I remember as the scene unfolded, I was like, well, we have to roll with it. But then I read it. For the rules of the embracing. Yeah, yeah. But I was like, well, we have to roll with it, you know? Like, oh no, like we have to roll with it. Uh but luckily, uh, now that we are under uh an organizational umbrella, we don't really have to worry necessarily about like being uh like for the live streams and stuff, we wouldn't have to make it. Yeah, we can hide, we can finally hide from God in the capitalist system. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's happening. That's that's why I did it is to absolve myself of all the terrible things I'm gonna have to do in order to get this podcast live. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Uh I've done horrible things since we last.
SPEAKER_06I'll have to make all the sacrifices, uh, the dark lords I'm having to uh uh declare my allegiance to, all that. Yeah, Gary Gygax.
SPEAKER_02Turns out he never actually left. He was the Lich all along. It's it's kind of crazy, you know. Holy shit. I'm saying. Uh, but Sophia, uh, yeah, we were kind of talking with uh with Brendan while he was in the chat with us about uh sort of the experience that's uh you've had with tabletop games, you know, so various DD like systems since in those five years. I imagine most of us have had at least uh a handful of here or there kind of occurrences. Yeah, occurrences, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_08Brushes with the Almighty. Um, yeah. So I I would say like purely out of utter self-awareness, the of the entire party, I'm probably the least knowledgeable and least prepared, but in terms of tabletoping. Um but um the improv I I got you covered. I think in the last five years, I've probably been an active member of of two very short-lived campaigns. Um but probably like 10 plus one-offs, you know?
SPEAKER_14Um yeah.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I mean, like a big fun thing that I think a lot of uh, you know, DD adjacent comedians really like doing is just finding the one day every 10 years everyone's free. And that's so real. It truly is like, oh, the blood moon. Yes, that's all gather at Tyler's house.
SPEAKER_06Um that's yeah, that's that's really fun. I uh I've been a guy, I've found a time to where everyone is available, and for the past like six or seven years, I mean some of the same people uh in like long form campaigns. So like doing like small like one-shots and stuff like that. It's something that that I really want to kind of I'm trying to get into so that my players can explore more characters and get in the film more shoes and explore some more topics and builds and stuff.
SPEAKER_02And it and it's such a good it's such a weird thing too because like uh I'm also like as a DM, like I've DM'd far more one-shots, like none of my long-term campaigns, even like adventures, like ever made it past like maybe session 10. Yeah, uh life life always gotten.
SPEAKER_08Even that is a huge success, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, 10 sessions is still. I know I still didn't finish the story though, and so I'm gonna cry forever. You you might uh but uh the uh it's an interesting perspective though, because like Justin having so much more like long-form DMing experience versus like basically everything I ever did was like a very bare bone skeletal structure, two encounters and then like riffing between.
SPEAKER_06So, you know, yeah, no, like I'm I still going is my second this second campaign's been going three and a half years, and the first one was about three years before I left. That's what I'm saying. Before I left Louisiana.
SPEAKER_08So it's it really is like talking about like like a partner, you know? It's like, yeah, we've been together three and a half years, and everyone's like, how are you doing that? Oh yeah, yeah, I know, right? Crazy. No, but I think that's what I'm really excited by with our stuff here, is like um really having like the thread of the commitment and and getting to do literally more long form improv um within sort of the this realm. Um I really like see DD as just like uh like particularly in in the way that the you've shaped the form as just a different tool to get to the the fun scene work. So um I promise to be seriously, I promise to be exceedingly theatrical and um and very story driven. So I'm really excited about it.
SPEAKER_02Again, that was part of the like whenever we were like we should really reach out to like Logan and Sophia to see if they're like if they just happen to have the time free.
SPEAKER_08Because literally Mondays are like my my free day. So I I've been singing. I was like, I have to do DD.
SPEAKER_02Uh so you said a bunch of one-offs. Do you have like a type of uh a particular character that you tend to like skew towards? Like classes wise.
SPEAKER_06Yes, let's set her up so she rolls the exact opposite.
SPEAKER_01Justin, you're not supposed to say the quiet part out loud.
SPEAKER_06The luck is listening. Oh no, no, no. The father luck is always listening.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, so um the the most recent like campaign that never really got off the ground with a character that I just like really loved and played, I think, in a maybe a couple campaigns. Um she was a uh paladin, uh human paladin named uh Hanica Kamuppins.
SPEAKER_10And that's a great paladin name, holy cow.
SPEAKER_08She was a great paladin name, thank you. Um she was a a Nepo baby like paladin of like a high lord, and I immediately became an oathbreaker at the end of the first session. Like at the first sign of trouble, I immediately like made a deal with a devil. And for like it, it was I was just like a hapless, um basically like dumb blonde without a spine. Um it was so it was so fun because she had she had no real morals, and I just got to kind of just be a really useful idiot. And I got to kind of like I I I normally my playstyle is I love charisma first, I talk through everything. I'm a terrible uh magic, frankly, too much mechanics freaks me out, and then also fighting bores me.
SPEAKER_02So if you it Sophia and Justin, if either of you ever hear that I'm playing a wizard, be aware that within like a week somebody's getting a text message that's like, how the fuck are you supposed to keep track of this fucking spell book?
SPEAKER_08Oh my god, Tim. I my my ADHD simply won't allow me. I'll I'll put a spell. I'll have one spell and I'll get really good at it, you know.
SPEAKER_02Uh my partner and I just uh finished a Baldur's Gate 3 like co-op campaign. And uh the way that uh as a druid, she would either like owlbear and then just wreck shop, or just be like, I'll just be a spellcaster this time and just like completely like 40 damage to three different people. Like, why not? You know?
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_08Well, now I'm gonna be a spellcaster or something.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you think? Oh, yeah. I can't wait for you to be like an like an invocation mage, like a wizard. Oh yeah, an illusionist wizard. Oh yeah. Oh my god. But but but uh no matter what, don't worry. There will be the uh guardrails of Justin and I are just going to let whatever's most fun slide. So you'll have you'll have a kind of character armor, let's say.
SPEAKER_08That's beautiful, and I I need so much of it. Arm me up.
SPEAKER_02Okay, okay. Uh I well we'll arm this. It's too long. Have we had armies? Uh I say we have arm she's am I right? Only uh only uh I'll be here all week. Sophia, we need to roll your stats. Uh, the way that we are doing this, do you have four D6 available? For six-sided die.
SPEAKER_08No, before we started, Logan took all the dice into the office and locked the door and said he didn't love me anymore.
SPEAKER_06Well that's a yes or too deep for this podcast.
SPEAKER_08No, I don't have the d6 available. Okay, cool.
SPEAKER_02Uh you have two options available. If you believe that you may navigate away from Discord and find a way to roll four virtual D6, we can do that. Otherwise, you know what that sound is? Fuck, I'm dropping one. Hold on.
SPEAKER_08It's beans in a palm.
SPEAKER_02Beans in a palm, it's beans four six-sided beans. So uh you need to decide. Am I rolling for you or are you rolling for you?
SPEAKER_08Tim, it's it's been five long years, and I've missed the sound of you deciding my fate. So you do it.
SPEAKER_06Now, Sophia, you do get an opportunity. Uh, if you don't like a roll, you can decide to re-roll it, but you do need to take that second roll. You get one chance to do so.
SPEAKER_02Oh, good. Okay. And you will do it after I announce what the roll would be for your stat. If you don't like it, you may re-roll it. But once you move on to the next stat, it's locked in.
SPEAKER_06Yep. And the high, the high is 18, the low is three on a bell curve.
SPEAKER_08So okay, bell curve. God damn. I can't say I want to re-roll the moment I hear the noise, and he doesn't say a number. I don't like the sound of that.
SPEAKER_02You can, but then you don't get anything else. So, like, that's on you, I guess. Are you ready to roll first for your strength?
SPEAKER_08I'm so ready.
SPEAKER_02Holy cow. That's a 15 strength.
SPEAKER_08We're keeping it.
SPEAKER_02We're keeping a 15 strength. Lock it in. Lock it in. Lock it in.
SPEAKER_08Lock it in. I started a weightlifting class yesterday. That's probably why.
SPEAKER_02For dexterity.
SPEAKER_06Wait, you're saying that's what she rolled? For dexterity.
SPEAKER_08Uh we're you know what? Keep it. We're locking it in.
SPEAKER_0115 strength. For dexterity. Oh that's hilarious.
SPEAKER_02Sophia, are are you feeling particularly healthy? Would you describe yourself as hail and hardy?
SPEAKER_08Recently. You want to hear something crazy?
SPEAKER_14Yes.
SPEAKER_08Um, I went to the hospital on Friday and they found I have uh eighth vertebrae in my neck. It happens in one in 500 people. It's called an Eve's rib.
SPEAKER_06Now is that a good one?
SPEAKER_02You also have 14 constitution. That's a plus two on that constitution modifier. We're keeping it. Hell yeah.
SPEAKER_06Keeping it. Alright.
SPEAKER_02Sophia, if you had to give an over-under on your intelligence, do you think that it is going to be higher than 10 or lower?
SPEAKER_08I think I'm dumb as balls.
SPEAKER_02Well, congratulations. You have the literacy of approximately a high, I mean a college sophomore. You've got 11 intelligence. 11 are we keeping it? Are you keeping it?
SPEAKER_08How many more do I got?
SPEAKER_06You got three more intelligence, wisdom, and then charisma.
SPEAKER_02No, no, no. We just did intelligence. It's just one of the things. Well, yeah, yeah. I was just letting her know. Oh, if you want to unroll it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. You have intelligence, wisdom, and charisma.
SPEAKER_08Okay, sick. I'm I'm saving my thing. Go ahead.
SPEAKER_02Okay. So on your wisdom, your second, your penultimate stat, if you will. Are you prepared?
SPEAKER_08I'm so prepared. My name is Sophia.
SPEAKER_02Uh now this is a pop quiz, Sophia. What is the difference between wisdom and intelligence whenever it comes to a DD stat sheet?
SPEAKER_08Oh, that's such a good question. Um, I would say wisdom comes from within.
SPEAKER_02That's such a good way to put it, Sophia. Like what what great kudos there?
SPEAKER_08Hey, Sophia means wisdom in Greek.
SPEAKER_06Oh, really? It does. Well, what is her stat then? 11. Sophia, 11.
SPEAKER_08Okay. Okay.
SPEAKER_02I okay, so like I can tell you're holding on a little bit because you know charisma's coming up, and you just said you talk your way through everything in DDs.
SPEAKER_08And I think purely because I'm thinking for viewership, I have to take the 11, and whatever the charisma is, I'm going to ask you to re-roll.
SPEAKER_06Oh, whatever it is.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_08Whatever it is.
SPEAKER_02Sophia, Sophia, I just rolled it. I promise you, I swear to you, I just rolled this. It's a fucking 17.
unknownYou don't want to.
SPEAKER_02It's two sixes and two fives, but I'm going to re-roll it, so that's really unfortunate for you. You end up with a 14. That's still pretty good. God damn. Besides that deck score, that's a pretty good one. Yeah, yeah. That's uh that's the makings of a good paladin, actually. It looks like there. Strength and charisma.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, strength, con charisma.
SPEAKER_02I can't wait for you to be like a wild magic sorcerer or like uh a druid. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah. I can't wait for you to be a rogue. A rogue with four dexterity.
SPEAKER_08I gotta I gotta ask you something. Because I think we're still technically still how much money would I have to donate to the nonprofit to go back to the 17 on charisma.
SPEAKER_02Sophia, there are some things that money can buy. I am one of them, unfortunately.
SPEAKER_08What about a favor?
SPEAKER_02I have kicked her from the chat.
SPEAKER_00No, no.
SPEAKER_05Oh, oh, she she's back. She's back.
SPEAKER_08Oh no. I was so bad, dude. So bad. Oh no, I don't believe that. No, I was in the middle trying to get Tim to like switch his morals around to let me do something I wanted to do, and then he just booted me out of the chat. Like I was a stray cat, like a whorish cat out on the street. I'm really upset.
SPEAKER_03Dang. Guys, it was it was I Well, Sophia, Chase just told the funniest joke I've ever heard. You Chase, you gotta tell that joke again.
SPEAKER_10Well, well, uh I don't know. It's a different setup now.
SPEAKER_03Um joke. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_10That is oh well. So I was walking into this bar and I says to myself, I says, Where's that Chase Banan? I need to get him away.
SPEAKER_04Alright. Guess I guess I can't tell that joke now. I'll have to wait for the joke now.
SPEAKER_11You have no idea how much you just saved Chase.
Chase Bernard, ART-C President
SPEAKER_02Well, but guys, it's been it's been a time. He'll be in here in a second, I think. They were they were telling a joke, apparently, that we interrupted, so Chase cannot tell, and Brendan's upset. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_14Hey Chase, I hope that probably is too mad about that.
SPEAKER_05That was no, that was hilarious because Logan set me up for like a oh, he he's had this funny joke prepared, and I was like, uh So it was actually really fucking funny.
SPEAKER_02Yo, Chase, how's it going, man?
SPEAKER_05Uh it's going good. I'm just uh I'm super excited for I'm a turnover. I'm super excited for the final rule season three.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. The final rule.
SPEAKER_05The final rule three seasons.
SPEAKER_02Uh but shit, Chase, like you and I have been yapping a bunch uh because we're like part of the same organization or whatever. Uh I'm gonna I want you and Justin to have a chance to catch up. I'm gonna I'm gonna be the peanut gallery for this. Yeah, okay. We have about nine minutes just to go.
SPEAKER_06So yeah, you guys uh I I mean, Chase, you I can't remember you emailed me or texted me or It was both Discord and messaged me or something. Uh told me you guys had this company started, and I was like, Well, you said I could we could do the final rule again, sure. Let me find a day. Um but uh yeah, what's what's this company that this uh Artsy? Well, I'm glad you asked.
SPEAKER_02Um I was not expecting you to just like immediately give us the chance to chill, but like no, like I'm sincerely curious, man.
SPEAKER_05So it is the so the Arcadian Renaissance Theater Creatives, or Artsy, um, is a nonprofit theater that we decided to make because we just weren't seeing the kind of uh really the kind of theater that we wanted to see in the area, and we felt that we um were in a good place to be able to bring the things we wanted to see in a theater company to the area. So uh I mean and a lot of it comes down to the area.
SPEAKER_06Where's the area still? Is that uh the Baton Rouge area or right?
SPEAKER_05Bat Baton Rouge, Louisiana and uh the Livingston Parish area. Um Okay, cool. Yeah, so the um I mean the biggest thing is like we're trying to, you know, really uh do these shows that are going to be, you know, uh off the beaten path a little bit. We want we want to be able to do shows that aren't like what every other single theater company is doing because either they um don't don't want to like offend people or don't want to uh they they want to put butts in seats so they're like concerned and again I want to make abundantly clear that well not just that, but like look, okay, as a theater who started with zero capital, it's daunting to not have like funds.
SPEAKER_02So like these theater companies who do things that they know are going to make money, like they're doing it to stay afloat, and I respect that unless they start overstepping the boundary, but like yeah, like Chase was saying, man, like there's a bunch of stuff out there that we don't like a lot of people just don't get to see.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I mean, um, because like what we're doing, because again, no, no, like I know I'd be like, oh, these other theater companies don't be like, holy shit, we're doing it.
SPEAKER_06And I didn't mean like the lowest common denominator as like an insult to like other things. Yeah, yeah. I was saying like the general public, this is what this is over. Yeah, with their experience with theater people, 70% people.
SPEAKER_05And um, but yeah. But uh, but like we're doing the final rule, which is like we're kind of trying to stretch the idea of what what theater and being an actor artist is, you know. It's uh we and we're really excited because we really want to be a more collaborative uh theater groups, you know, so not just being this isolated uh theater company that doesn't want to work with any other theater companies. I I want us to be able to work with as many of the theater companies in the area as possible and do work with them and just help each other grow because at the end of the day we shouldn't be on an island.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, about saying that's the that's the kind of thing too that I've noticed around here is that like a lot of artists are on islands, you know, and it's not even of their islands of their own making, it's just hard to find places to do their art. Yeah, because it's often off the beaten path, you know?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, and and a lot of art has gone more digital and a lot less, I mean, I would say probably less actually uh community with it, because you know, you can reach people easier, but it's not really bringing people, you know, together as much as uh as you know, uh meeting in person, going to a live show, stuff like that. Everyone gets all their media pretty, you know, isolated. I mean I can go watch, you know, go sit in the corner, watch a whole season of a show and uh, you know, get my media there. Absolutely. The theater was, you know, a com like has always been. That's why I love like still love movie theaters with a kid, it's harder to go, but like it's more of a community experience, like going to watch a movie with you know, seeing who else, you know, is excited about the movie or whatever. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh and that's a I mean that's a great it's a it's a something that we are like I think that uh especially with the final rule and like the creative showcase, you know. Trying to f break into the digital space and make it a little bit of a digital space is I mean, it's fantastic.
SPEAKER_06It's literally the only reason I I'm still able to play Dungeons and Dragons, uh, because my current campaign since I left Louisiana three and a half years, four years ago actually, next month, um I mean I I still play with some of the same guys there, and we play on Discord and Roll 20 and all this other stuff and able to still express that 'cause yeah, no, I like D D that's like it's it's my thing. I I'm not gonna lie, like in that time period of get moving here and getting there, I got I got real low. I'm like, man, I can't express my creative juices. It's it's getting to be a slaw, going to work and then coming home and then video game.
SPEAKER_02Well about to say, that's definitely like shit, man. It's it's that it's that phase of life.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Oh yeah, yeah. No, and uh it's yeah, I I was really excited when you guys reached out because uh as Brendan had said previously, I haven't really like improved other than like dming since I mean the final rule really. I think I done a little bit before we had done some stuff in uh in college with like improv and theater and stuff like that. But yeah, I was really excited to be able to uh kind of uh stretch those muscles and and uh really get back into it.
SPEAKER_05I'm excited to see you step into this DM role, I'm not gonna lie. Like I think you're gonna do a phenomenal job.
SPEAKER_06I was I was I was asking you guys to let me DM you back in the first seasons. Oh, well no, we noticed that we're like first couple seasons two.
SPEAKER_02I was like, I about to say, yeah, well, and it's that's why like whenever Chase and I were talking about having two different Like again, two different campaigns running at the same time. I was like, well, we have to ask Justin. Like just yeah, Justin has always asked us to do like DMing things with us, and we just never quite got there, you know. Side campaign? Yeah, don't have to do side campaign. We could we can have it be extra content for Patreon.
SPEAKER_05We can just do like a little side campaign. Which we I'll do. I'm still like we should have extra content. I'm I'm really hoping that we as a company are able to bring in extra content that people can pay a little extra for, and it would help us be able to um be afloat. Uh but also give them a little something extra. So I'm I'm very excited for that.
SPEAKER_06For sure, for sure. And actually, um I I I haven't even mentioned this. I've actually have been on like a little bit of a a small let's play that is a little West marches. I there for a little bit of DC twenty. Um for about like I think there was like eight episodes or something like that that I was in, but uh schedules just kind of didn't align. Basically, they were running when I was running my campaign. But uh I I I have done a little bit of uh you know live playing somewhat recently. I think it was like a year ago maybe when that was. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Again, I think I think like one of the most fascinating things that I keep hearing from having everyone here is about like what has changed in the last five years and like what that like is going to influence this campaign. Like how it has to, right? Like we draw from our experiences.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02I mean, shit, Chase, I don't know that I've ever actually asked you that, but like in the five years in between, man, like the shit's changed. How how are you how are you are you feeling like you have more to draw from, less to draw from? How are your spoons? You know, that kind of thing.
SPEAKER_05I so it's interesting, right? Because like literally I just got a house, I have a fiance, I'm getting married this year. That changes a lot.
SPEAKER_14Oh, thank you.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_14Um, but uh you it's our it's our secretary, so there is some uh yeah, yeah, but like we're just gonna scroll with it, you know.
SPEAKER_05Um but uh yeah, I do I do think I've grown a lot and I've been able to I I just cause it's weird you say because it's like uh you're like are you able to pull more from stuff, do you have more spoons? And it's like it's a hard question to answer because like uh I will see how I would answer it. I I'm I'm but I'll I'll be I mean what I can think of is like I'm in a completely different place than I used to be. And um I have a whole different set of things I now pull from than what I used to pull from. Um and it's just you know it's it part of me goes, ah, you know, it sucks that I can never go back to how things were before because you get nostalgic for it, but also I'm like, you know, all that free time. Can you fucking imagine having free time again? Yeah, but you but you know, uh but the trade-off is I'm I'm doing a lot of cool things now and I've made a lot of awesome connections with people. Uh and I'm like I'm doing cool shit, and you know what? Even with the amount of time that I have, I'm I'm making it work. And I I hope that in as I continue on this journey of my life that I am able to do more of what I want to do and less of what I don't want to do. If I can achieve that I mean if I no, it's a dream, but I mean like if I can achieve that, then I'm set. So to me, so much has changed in five years. But I'm I I I honestly do think it's it's been for the better. And I and I mean it d despite all the things going on with the world, I I'm hopeful, and that's not always been the case.
SPEAKER_02So Well, Chase, I can't wait to dash those hopes because we have to roll your stats. Yeah. Oh my god. I'm sorry. Okay. What you were saying was absolutely beautiful, but at some point in time I need to go to sleep.
SPEAKER_05No, I know. We've been rolling, we are we are now rolling at two hours in the general chat, which is not that. I mean, but we didn't even get these recordings.
SPEAKER_02We didn't even get started until like 45 minutes in. Uh Chase, do you have four D6 in front of you? Or is your ability to conjure them out of the ether of some kind of?
SPEAKER_05I'm gonna conjure them out of the ether.
SPEAKER_02That's crazy. The the Ethernet, if you will.
SPEAKER_06Whoa. Whoa.
SPEAKER_02Chase, you're going to be rolling in order, strength, dex, con, int, wisdom, and charisma. At any point, you will be rolling four d6 and dropping the le uh the lowest. Uh after you have announced a roll, you may re-roll that roll one time throughout the entirety of your stats, and you must make that decision before you go to roll the next stat. Are you do you accept these terms and conditions? You must in order to proceed with this bond.
SPEAKER_05Guys, I guess I'm leaving the final rule. No, I I I accept. I accept the trust.
SPEAKER_14Okay, cool. Then uh let's start rolling, man.
SPEAKER_05Alright, so we're rolling for strength first, right?
SPEAKER_06Starting with strength.
SPEAKER_05Alright, here I go. Bada bing, bada boom. That's an 11. Okay. Ooh, we're starting up strong. But you know what? I'm gonna keep it. Good, good.
SPEAKER_02I like it. I like the gusto. Good start. Yep.
SPEAKER_05Good start. Good start. I'm I'm always one to uh make it hard on myself. So, okay, the next one is Dex, right? Yep. Next is Dex. Here we go. Okay. Oh wait, sorry. Uh 11. I I didn't drop the lowest on that.
SPEAKER_10What?
SPEAKER_05Oh, what a liar. I am so sorry. I am so sorry. What was the what was the lowest? Do you know what the lowest? You know, I don't I don't know, but like we can 11's fine.
SPEAKER_02Just do it better from now on, I guess. Yes, and yes, and that was my bad.
SPEAKER_05That was my because I rolled 4d6 and I was like, oh yes, the number that comes out of 46. Surely I wouldn't roll lower than this. Yeah, yeah. Fuck. All right. 11's fine. 11's. Okay, okay, 11's fine. Alright, the next one is uh for decks. That is gonna be 10 uh 16.
SPEAKER_14Holy shit. Holy cow. So you know what? Um uh re-roll that guy. Yeah, yeah, obviously.
SPEAKER_02You heard it, Justin. You heard it, you heard it. No, no, no.
SPEAKER_05Um, okay, 16 decks. What is so what's next? That's uh Constitution. Ooh, constitution loves you.
SPEAKER_06How healthy. Sturdy. You a sturdy girl, Chase? Would you categorize yourself as a sturdy girl?
SPEAKER_05I'm a 15, so I at this point I would say yes, I am. I'm a sturdy girl.
SPEAKER_02That's pretty sturdy. Uh what about your that what about your ints?
SPEAKER_05That first role was awful, though. All right, let's see what the Okay, nope, now we're back to shitty roles, because this is gonna be Okay, okay. 12. Oh, wait, no, wait, uh uh 11. Sorry, gosh. Shitty roles, you said roles exactly average. What do you mean? Oh, okay. Well, I don't want to be average, I want to be a hero.
SPEAKER_14Or really, what's your wisdom? What's your wisdom?
SPEAKER_05Okay, okay, okay. Next is uh 13. For your wisdom as well?
SPEAKER_09Alright.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's what we re-rolling it. You are nearing the end of your ability to re-roll. Let's put it that way. This is a it is a privilege and a boon to re-roll, and you have squandered it.
SPEAKER_05Well, yeah, because I because you know me. But that last one you said was an 11 or 13, sorry. 13. 13. Got it.
SPEAKER_02Alright, what's your what's your charisma or your reroll in the wisdom? Those are your options, bud.
SPEAKER_05Uh, I'm gonna roll charisma. Okay, okay. Roll charisma. Uh alright, that is gonna be a what is 14.
SPEAKER_02Chase, I'm sorry you have to re-roll that first roll. It wasn't. Alright, no, no, no.
SPEAKER_05That's fair.
SPEAKER_02That is fair. We're remote rolling strength.
SPEAKER_11I I demand. Please.
SPEAKER_06Alright, alright. Alright, no, no, no, no, no, no. That is fine. You just gave him an 18. That's what you just did.
SPEAKER_05Oh, you want to find out. Okay, okay. So let it be known that Tim is now making me re-roll the string because I got an 11, and let it be known that if I get something higher than that.
SPEAKER_02You you uh you got a misbegotten 11, let's say.
unknownUh oh.
SPEAKER_02What'd you get? 14. God damn it. I almost I almost thought I got another 11, though. You always, you and Vincent, both of you motherfuckers, always roll like really good stats on every single one of your improvised characters.
SPEAKER_05Well, it sounded it sounded like Brendan rolled pretty good.
SPEAKER_02He didn't give me the stats, but but but you know, I mean that's we we come to expect it out of a guy like Brendan. He is Brendan Bice.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. It's true, it is the Brendan Bice. He's the Brendan Bice.
SPEAKER_14So y'all, I that's another$100 just so you know you owe his agent to him.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh fuck!
unknownGod damn it.
SPEAKER_02Okay, get out of here, Chase.
unknownI have people to talk to you.
SPEAKER_04Judith? He's back.
SPEAKER_11No, he's not I don't know.
SPEAKER_08How'd it go?
SPEAKER_04Yo. Oh no. They really they messed him up.
SPEAKER_08God damn. Save yourselves.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I'm fine.
Fortune Favors Vincent Bianca
SPEAKER_04If I leave the chat, it'll mess with Craig. I can't do that. I'm not gonna go to the city. Alright, alright. This will be exciting. Oh man. Wish me luck.
SPEAKER_09Well So they're saving Logan for last then.
SPEAKER_02God damn, man. I it's always so fascinating that like people will always leave their characters' fates, like their their like the stats to fate, and they do it every time, and they're so brave with it, and they always get fucking rewarded. What's up, Vincent? Yo, yay! Howdy, how's it going?
SPEAKER_04Oh, it's going good. How are how are you?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you know, we're we're having a good time here convening the council like we do.
SPEAKER_04I love it, I love it. Having a blast. Living life.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. How have you been, Vincent? I like I think the l last episode that we maybe recorded of of uh the final rule was the last time we had talked.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that was the last time we had spoken to each other. I've I've just I've been working. I live in Chicago now. Um nice, nice. I live in Chicago.
SPEAKER_06I live I live closer to Chicago now, about halfway point with uh Kansas City. So straight up. Wake it. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04I've been here for I just started my fifth lease in this apartment. Not in this yeah, in Chicago, fifth lease. So I'll be coming on five years soon. Crazy how time flies. I know and making time for theater when I can. But uh not enough time for theater, so that's why I'm glad I'm doing this to get some more of that in my problem.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I'm I'm kind of the same way. I'm uh uh working in lighting and just kinda death a little bit of a desk job. So uh stretching the uh creative muscles is is always uh always fun when you're just looking at numbers and and quoting things uh all day. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_04Almost required after you're after you get up from your desk and work on an Excel spreadsheet, go walk somewhere else, you just kind of do a little stuff. I did that in the office one time. They're like, yo, you remember the time when Vince did he just out, man. You freaked the fuck out. Yeah, yeah. I do that in a restaurant, nobody cares. They're like, yeah, sure, whatever. It's it's funny.
SPEAKER_02Do you need to go do you need to go with the walk-in for a second, Vincent? Like, is it okay?
SPEAKER_04I I just now I'm a manager now, so I don't get to do that as much, or I do it. It's like, whoa, I have to be professional.
SPEAKER_06The illusion of professionality is is amazing. The more you're the more you're in like that kind of like a professional environment to where like you know who your uppers actually are and you've known them for a long time. You're like, like, oh I know the real you. This this LinkedIn version of you is not too uh dreamed with. What the fuck happened to LinkedIn? Y'all know about what what happened?
SPEAKER_02What happened? Well, I thought it was just like a place to like I don't really know what it was, but like it's I it's the same thing I think that happened to like all social media, where like now the most people that you see on it are just like the people who are really into it, and I don't really understand, I guess, what it is.
SPEAKER_04It's performative like self-marketing.
SPEAKER_02I can't yeah, yeah, it's it's uh I would never I would never self-market my performances ever.
SPEAKER_04And if you're if you're a potential employer, uh was joking. Uh hiring we have to look at my LinkedIn. I did carry, I did do a good job of my LinkedIn. If you're looking to hire me and you happen to come across this, which I don't know how you would, but I want you to know it's a joke.
SPEAKER_06I really can say I am it is still impressive how enthusiastic you can be about plumbing supplies. Like it is it is so true in Europe, you're how people can be so enthusiastic about paper.
SPEAKER_04Well, I mean I'm a little guilty of it though. If I learn enough about something, it gets really interesting. Like sometimes I have to like fix the plumbing in my or fresh my restaurant like, well, how do I actually change out the battery on this automatic slow?
SPEAKER_02Vincent, dude, that's so real too in the service industry. Like, if you prove if you prove that you're useful at all, because like you actually take the time to look at a door before you try to slam it open, yeah. Like you make yourself invaluable real quick. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_04I I have keys to every one of the restaurants in the group that I manage for because I'm I I feel like I'm pretty valuable.
SPEAKER_06It may be for sure, for sure. You're you're the key holder, the gatekeeper.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. The gatekeeper, yo, so true. All we should all aspire to be.
SPEAKER_06Uh yeah, I'm changing your uh name in the Discord to the gatekeeper.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. Gatekeeper, yeah.
SPEAKER_06But like in a in a wholesome way. I'm not I'm not oh yeah, of course. It's it's gatekeeper and more gatekeeper. Gatekeeper, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Hey, yeah, that's the guy that's at the gate all the time. You know that guy, the gatekeeper. And I'm gatekeeper. Yeah, that guy, the gatekeeper. Uh but Vince, a lot of what we've been talking about with other people have just been like how much has changed over the past five years and whether or not we feel like it's for the better or for the worse for us. Most people so far, it's been for the better. I think all of us are in a different phase of life, you know.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I think it's uh I agree on the better. Uh better and different, but mostly better. Like, like no one I have made the best decisions I could make with the information I had so many years ago. We were all blindsided by the that that pandemic.
SPEAKER_02Uh that's yo, so the Pandosi, yeah, yeah. Yeah, with the Pandosi that like I damn it, you're so good at doing that, Vincent, and it gets me every time.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. With the fandossi.
SPEAKER_02They're just like dropping it in there, man.
SPEAKER_04Uh that like if I'd have known there's gonna be a global pandemic, I might have changed what I did leading up to it, but there's no way I could have seen it coming. It's not no way, that's paranoid. No, so I'm happy where I am right now because that this is this is what this is what happened as a result. I feel like I made the good moves to end up right. I was always gonna go to Chicago, and here I am, just at a different time.
SPEAKER_02There you go. Yeah, yeah. Chicago has always been uh one of those things that like is I feel the same way. It's like it's an inevitability, perhaps, but like until in the meantime, I'm gonna keep uh doing what I'm doing, I guess. You know, whatever you're doing.
SPEAKER_06For me, it's a short train ride away that I still have yet to go.
SPEAKER_04Honestly, I love the transit, it's the best part. If Kennedy's yeah, yeah, no, because it's an Amtrak train, yeah, right to downtown. And I work in one of the downtown stores. No, it's it's great. I have a friend who uh to visit his family just takes a train out of St. Louis, and that's it.
SPEAKER_06Like that's I love traveling on the train. God, man, can you imagine trains? I love it.
SPEAKER_04Baton Rouge could never uh we can talk about having a New Orleans to Baton Rouge high-speed rail and then never talking about it ever again. I know.
SPEAKER_02Well, I think once they thought about like literally anything having to do with the fucking weather and water table in this state, it was I don't think it was I think it was hopeful, wishful thinking at the beginning.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I mean, you know, you know one of the few uh train tracks that do go through there, how high they had to stack those damn. Fucking are you kidding?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so now let's build a whole second one just for a single rail line that will go by a few times a day. But no, no, no, let's not worry about the one highway that goes through the town.
SPEAKER_02Dude, Vince Vincent and Justin actually Well because I I only just recently moved back to Louisiana. Well, I say just recently, it's like uh two two years now. That's recent enough. Recent enough. Yeah. Uh but uh were y'all here whenever the fucking bike lane got added to government?
SPEAKER_04Yo, I was I was right before I moved, and as I was visiting my family in Louisiana, I noticed that the like the median gets added and the bike lane. No, it's I love it.
SPEAKER_02It's fascinating that they chose government street because do you understand how little people understand what the fuck a bike lane is on government street?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and how little people like I don't know how I haven't seen a lot of bikes on government street. Yeah, it's good to have it, but like that that that that rotates a lot of heavy traffic. So yeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that's that's wild. I I didn't hear about that.
SPEAKER_02I was probably there, but well, I don't think there's any way to know about it until you get someone like me who's like, Why the fuck did they add a bike lane to just started happening?
SPEAKER_04I didn't hear about it. I didn't see any news about it, it just showed it just happened. I'm like, oh, this lane.
SPEAKER_02Uh the perpetual uh construction stopped suddenly, moved somewhere else, manifested elsewhere, the perpetual construction of Louisiana, uh, and suddenly there was a bike lane. It's like so fast too. Like, I really wasn't gonna uh meanwhile, I-12 I think still has like right after college, is still an absolute clusterfuck heading towards.
SPEAKER_04I've been doing an I-12 since I was like four years old going to blue by you.
SPEAKER_02That's what I'm saying, man.
SPEAKER_04Um I supposed to have a character now, like have y'all dude it's manifested in the ether.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah. Congrats. Your answers actually gave us what your stats are. You man, that's that's it right there. That's yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02No, uh, so I was gonna wait until like your actual 10 minutes were up because that's what I've been doing for everyone else, man. But like you have another fucking minute. So uh you want to start rolling your stats, dude?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, let's do it. Let's see what's happening. Let's go.
SPEAKER_02All right, just let's what is a talk talk Vincent through what he's about to do? Alright, Vincent.
SPEAKER_06So you will be rolling 4d6. Uh you will be dropping the lowest roll of those. Alright. Uh, and we are going to be going from top to bottom. Strength, dex, con, intelligence, wisdom, charisma. Now, uh while you're rolling these, after you take make a roll and you see what the result is, you can decide one time throughout all of these rolls to re-roll that stats. You get one chance to do it, and you have to take the second roll.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_06So, um, if everything makes sense, uh we will start with strength.
SPEAKER_04Alright. And you are gonna be rolling four d6, dropping the lowest. Got bad news. I didn't have my dice with me.
SPEAKER_06And uh the ranges are three to eighteen. Just uh I don't know how much DD or other systems you've been playing lately, but just so you have kind of an idea of the ranges, 10 is average.
SPEAKER_04Oh man.
SPEAKER_06Alright, what is your strength?
SPEAKER_04Sorry, I don't have dice, so I'm trying to log in a DVD on you.
SPEAKER_02You're gonna ask for me for me. Well, that's impossible. Uh Vincent, uh, if you cannot find a way to conjure dice, do not worry. Uh Justin, do you also have dice?
SPEAKER_06I do have dice.
SPEAKER_02Uh you can also have Justin or I roll for preferably Justin since I rolled for Sophia.
SPEAKER_04Okay, my characters. And then Lockie. You can also just look at dice. Locking Florendol. That was my other character. Locking Locky. That's so true. That was yeah, because I saw it.
SPEAKER_02Because we spent like 15 minutes being like, how the fuck do we say your last name?
SPEAKER_04I did, I did. I don't know how I came up with Florendole.
SPEAKER_14I don't remember either.
SPEAKER_04I want to say something.
SPEAKER_06I think it just kind of fell out of your mouth.
SPEAKER_04Where's the dice button on here again? I think it's the bottom left. There it is. Alright, so I'm rolling 4d6 and dropping the lowest. Dropping the lowest. Ooh, that's actually really good. That's a six, five, and a five. Ooh, that's 17 on your first one.
SPEAKER_06Alright, now do you want to re-roll that?
SPEAKER_02No. 17 is locked in.
SPEAKER_0617 locked in for strength. Alright, let's roll for dexterity. How swift are you?
SPEAKER_04Oh, that's that's that's yucky. That's a that's a agile. I want to re-roll that one.
SPEAKER_02I would like to point out that Vincent just told called anyone who has average dexterity yucky. Are you uh are you keeping that 10 or are you re-rolling it?
SPEAKER_04Oh, that's a good point. No, I should re-roll it. I I don't I don't I I had two ones. I had two ones with that.
SPEAKER_02That was You will not be able to re-roll. You are you are eschewing the idea of having an average dexterity. Alright, you're talking too much.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I'll take I'll take a 10 deck theory with it. We'll see what it's like.
SPEAKER_02Oh man, now I feel bad because I like you know the free will or whatever.
SPEAKER_04Alright.
SPEAKER_02Free will or whatever.
SPEAKER_04I control free will as D N D. Free will TM. Uh that's a 14. That's a 40.
SPEAKER_09Alright.
SPEAKER_06Solid, solid. Alright, what is our third role? Or our uh intelligence. The intelligence role. How smart are you?
SPEAKER_04That's also a 10. Now I worry that that's not smart enough. Because I only have what? I got I got two more after that. Yeah, yeah. You got two more after that. Man. Is it important to be smart or is it important to be wise? You know, those are the questions we gotta ask ourselves.
SPEAKER_02You don't know how wise you're gonna be, though. You know how smart you might be. Whoa, that one hit him hard. I know about to I think I stun locked him.
SPEAKER_04I'm keeping uh I'm keeping that, and then we'll try again.
SPEAKER_06Intelligence, alright. All right. Alright, wisdom.
SPEAKER_04That's a that's a nine. That's three, three, three, six, shop to lowest. That's a nine. Yeah. How damn.
SPEAKER_06Alright, we keeping the nine or we re-rolling.
SPEAKER_04I don't want to have any negative on it. Okay.
SPEAKER_14See, it's it's the hubris of it, I think.
SPEAKER_04I don't know how charismatic I'm end up being. I'm a re- uh because I because I can't pick later the re-roll. That's that's no, you cannot. Yeah. No, I'm I'm gonna re-roll. I'm gonna re-roll my wisdom.
SPEAKER_02I think that's let's see it. God, I hope this bites you in the ass just for the just for the fucking Schadenfreud of it.
SPEAKER_04Uh okay, that's a okay. That's a five, a three, and a six.
SPEAKER_02Okay, that's 14. God damn it. I hope your charisma's like three.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I yeah, yeah. I I get four ones.
SPEAKER_02I don't know why I'm so like I have vitriol for you right now, Vincent. I think it's just because every low steps everyone's been rolling so fucking well.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it is it is wild how well everyone has rolled.
SPEAKER_04Well, then it will only be fine. All right, uh, four or six out of three. Man.
SPEAKER_0613.
SPEAKER_02Wow. Wow. All right, average and two above average everything else.
SPEAKER_04I'm so ready.
SPEAKER_02So, Vincent, uh, because you asked about it earlier, uh, what is going to happen is uh between now and the next time that we go to uh live stream the first episode, uh Justin and I will do some rolling in the background for uh your origins, your background, your class, etc. You will be presented with a character sheet that is these numbers, everything that that translates to, and everything else will be completely new to you whenever we begin session one. Does that sound good? I love it. All right, Vincent, we're gonna kick you back out into the main chat, uh, and then we're gonna get the last person in here. So hopefully we shouldn't, we should only have about 15 minutes left left. I love it. I love it. Alright. All right. Okay, so we're gonna have to do this one like one word at a wait, oh, wrong way. Hold on.
SPEAKER_04Hey Vincent. I think I did pretty good.
SPEAKER_05Cool. I think I did pretty good. I'm worried, has everyone done pretty good? Because then like, are we no one will be good?
SPEAKER_06I uh I want another person to Oh fuck. I think what Logan level is.
SPEAKER_04He's already in there. He's he's he's writing his own story. He's writing his own story in there.
SPEAKER_01Hey, hold on, we were doing a bit.
SPEAKER_10We did not get a sand up. You did not get a sands. Let's go, let's go, let's go.
SPEAKER_02Okay, it's because he's excited. It's it's because he's excited, it's because he's excited.
SPEAKER_06You're gonna be shunned by the council.
SPEAKER_02Hey Logan, how's it going, man?
SPEAKER_03I'm doing great. How are you guys doing?
SPEAKER_02Not too bad. Uh so uh yeah, man, it's uh it's good to have you on board, man. Like legitimately, it's uh it's really good to see you. I feel like it's been over five years, and it's been five years for almost everyone else. Oh, yeah, I took a shot of espresso right before this. I'm ready to go. I I hope that all of that was captured by the other general chat too.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, uh if you said something before I joined, I didn't hear it, so that's why I was like, uh, I don't know what's happening.
SPEAKER_02Oh no, no, no. He's just he was just very excited, and uh, and uh I can't fault him for that. Uh but Logan, it's uh it's it's been that amount of time. What's new with you? What have you been up to?
SPEAKER_03Absolutely nothing. I'm in Chicago, I'm absolutely having the time of my life, and I wouldn't be anywhere other than that.
SPEAKER_06That sounds like the opposite of nothing. Yeah, absolutely nothing.
SPEAKER_03I've been doing nothing, the time of my life. Exactly, yes.
SPEAKER_06Living in this uh uh asylum just with I mean similar to my walls, you know, the soft walls.
SPEAKER_03Yes, the soft walls, the sweet comfort of the bridge that I'm under right now.
SPEAKER_02Yes, exactly. Uh have you been keeping up any with like uh DD and stuff? I know you played a good little bit.
SPEAKER_03I have a campaign with my friends that have been that's been going on for I think 10 years now. Shit.
SPEAKER_02I was saying you and Justin have a lot uh to yap about with long-term campaigning.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. You know, yeah. Oh god.
SPEAKER_02What's it, man? I legitimately I don't know, I don't know how you there's how you pull it off for that long.
SPEAKER_06I I never was able to. Yeah. Well, you you just find a day to where no one ever really does anything. My day and time is Sunday at 8 p.m. You know what people do with Sunday at 8 p.m. They relax because the weekday week's about to start. So I grab people, I'm like, hey, I know you're not doing anything on Sunday night.
SPEAKER_02And my day and time is is any day that ends in Y and fucking 4 20. Am I fucking right? Holy, yeah, so true. Said this would be a joke. 6-7, 6-7 joke-free podcast. Christian. You're wrong on both of those accounts, Logan. I'm so sorry. I'm ready, I'm ready, let's do it right now. Let's do it. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. I have like we have like two more questions for you first, okay, Logan? You have 10 minutes. He's so excited, man. I'm telling you.
SPEAKER_06Oh my goodness. If you guys could see his face right now, I'd I'm glad of I think he'd bite me if we'd be in the same room.
SPEAKER_02The way that I wish I had like a hotkey for like a window snip tool. Wait, am I into that? Uh so Logan, uh uh, but legitimately, man, it's really good to see you. Uh what like what are you looking forward to most about this? Uh moving from a guest uh appearance to being a mainstream. Uh I know all of it kind of happened a bit far a bit fast to like actually putting it all together, but uh yeah, how are you feeling?
SPEAKER_13I can wait.
SPEAKER_06Oh, wait, is he is he muted? Oh, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry.
SPEAKER_03I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'm not I do. You want to try that again? You want to try that again, man? I want to focus on objective. Describe that to me, please. Uh the playwright, all of us, uses many tools, and one of them is the objective of the character. I want to focus on the engine.
SPEAKER_06The engine. Interesting.
SPEAKER_02So I'm going to I'm going to dive deep. I'm going to try to forge a neural link with you, real quick, Logan, to decipher what you just said.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_02You want to focus in on the moment-to-moment actions of your character rather than thinking about meta applications? Yes. Is that actually right?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's pretty. I yeah. Oh, shit.
SPEAKER_02No, okay, I'll take that.
SPEAKER_03I want to do the thing that I want to do.
SPEAKER_02I respect that. You know what? I respect that.
SPEAKER_06Improv, maybe. Oh, yeah. There we go. Ah, fuck it, Logan. Let's just roll your stats, dude. You're ready.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Uh Logan, the way that this works, you are going to be rolling four D6 and dropping the lower in a series from strength to dexterity, constitution, intelligence, wisdom, and finally charisma. You may at any point in time, while the uh while you you must announce the role that you made, and then immediately after announcing decide whether or not you are going to keep that roll or use your one opportunity to tempt fate and re-roll it. However, if you do that, you must of course accept the new role and you only get one of those. Does that make sense? That makes sense. Do you have your own dice? I have a dice roller right here. Wonderful. Please, by all means, 4d6, drop the lower and announce your strength score. 15. Sorry, drop the lower.
SPEAKER_03Uh 13. 13, okay.
SPEAKER_02And you're you gonna re-roll that or are you gonna?
SPEAKER_03Absolutely not. We're for John.
SPEAKER_02What you got for text?
SPEAKER_06Text 11.
SPEAKER_0211. I love it.
SPEAKER_0611. Alright. We keeping that one? We're keeping it. Let's go. Amazing, amazing. Please be a three constitution.
SPEAKER_03Constitution is a five. You're gonna keep that. Are we keeping that?
SPEAKER_06We're keeping it, we're keeping it.
SPEAKER_02Okay, okay. I'm not even gonna do like all the weird like warnings and stuff I gave everyone else who was on the fence about whether they were using it. I I think Logan's got it. Yeah, it's gonna be like we're gonna have like four HP. Yeah.
SPEAKER_14Anyway, I'm sorry, go ahead.
SPEAKER_03Uh we got a 17. God damn it. 17 intelligence?
SPEAKER_10Holy. Yes, sir.
SPEAKER_03I can't wait for you to be a barbarian. Yeah, you're and then we got a 15.
SPEAKER_0650 for wisdom. Alright. We want to re-roll that? No. Seems like you like the five a lot better than that 15.
SPEAKER_03I'll tell you where I'd use the spice of life. My last level is also shocking. It's a six.
SPEAKER_10I don't know. You're gonna re-roll that for your charisma?
SPEAKER_02We're giving a bit. Logan, I respect if there's nothing else I respect about you, I respect how much you commit to the bit. Truly, we should all aspire to have such a bit to commit to.
SPEAKER_03I got three double A's and they never run out, baby. I'm all child.
SPEAKER_14That's great. I love that. Truly I do.
SPEAKER_06Wow. Alright, yeah. So strength at 13, Dex at 11, Con at a whopping five. There is there is a chance you only have like a couple hit points. I've got the um level one. Intelligence.
SPEAKER_02You might as well just take the peasant like the peasant stack log. Like let him choose between like the commoner and like his actual character shape.
SPEAKER_06The tins and an eight for intelligence. And then uh we got that uh nice Chris Chrisma six.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, for the charisma, that's true. Uh Logan, uh, as we have told, uh, as we are continuing to tell you, we are going to roll your origin, your class, your background. Uh, so you are going to be surprised with that at session one, unless you want to spoil yourself on social media beforehand.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um I'll be a highborn paladin. We'll see about that. Honestly, if you call that right now, Logan, I want you to know you're out of the podcast. I don't, I just don't trust it at that point. It's an ill omen. Uh okay. Well, uh, if you want to go ahead and hop back into the general chat, Logan. Uh, we're gonna be in there in just a second to wrap things up. Okay. Uh, thank you again for being a part of this. Like, really, I'm so excited to have you on board. Uh, the pleasure is ours.
SPEAKER_04Oh, he's back. Oh. I think that was the I think that might have been the fastest one, actually. I hate to do that. I really hate to say that. I really hate to say that, but I think that might have been the fastest one. Oh man.
SPEAKER_05Logan wins again. Uh you are so close to the camera, my guy.
SPEAKER_03I've always been this close to the camera. Sure. Let me sorry, let me move back a little bit.
SPEAKER_05God. Every hair on your mustache. I can see.
SPEAKER_04I want okay. I've made him my full screen, so I think this is great actually. A full screen of Logan's face on my monitor is really what I wanted. It's what I've always wanted.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, see, this is what the this is what the listeners are missing out on.
SPEAKER_05It's true, it's true. And unfortunately, no one's gonna see it because this isn't live streamed, so we won't have recordings at the webcams. Okay.
SPEAKER_09If somebody in here can guess. Oh we just lost Logan. Can't guess. Oh no.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, if I could guess which hotkey is.
SPEAKER_08Hey Logan, we lost you.
SPEAKER_09Oh man, it's it's just loading. He is giving it.
SPEAKER_04No, he he was trying to die.
SPEAKER_08The whole thing died? Oh, do you wanna hop on? Okay. Um this thing died, he has to reset it.
SPEAKER_04What died? He's still in the chat.
Closing
SPEAKER_02So uh oh well. We have all of the stats done. Uh the only things left were going to be us rolling for your uh your origins uh and your backgrounds and your class, and we'll do that on the side. Uh those will be posted to social media in the lead up to the first uh live stream. So if you want to spoil yourself, you can. However, uh don't feel the need to. If you want to just be like completely and totally shocked at uh what it ended up being, I needless say highly encourage that. Um I'll do it. Uh so what I what I would like to give right now is a very brief. So I have done some consideration on like what the beginning of this campaign is. Um, and I think that it's a good place to kind of get us like a sort of introduction. Uh, I have not thought literally at all about the wording of this. I have quite actually just yapped about it to chase my partner and uh and a couple of other close friends. So I'm gonna do my best to make this real good and dramatic, okay? Uh, but this is let's consider this to be the introduction to this season of The Final Rules.
SPEAKER_06We lost Logan. We did lose Logan.
SPEAKER_02He'll hop back in here in a second if he needs.
SPEAKER_12Okay, cool.
Outro
SPEAKER_02All right, all right, all right. Time exists, and yet we know so fascinatingly little about it. At any given time, any decisions that one person might make that affects another, that affects themselves causes ripples in a way. And so we must ask ourselves at what point do the culmination of those ripples creates a tide that changes and ebbs and flows? In a time not so dissimilar from ours, but with a bevy of decisions that were made leading up to it, we find ourselves in a weird magical analogue of our modern day. Sure, they don't call it the internet, but they still access a plane of data from their portals. A red dragon amasses wealth and decides to spend it. What could possibly capture the imagination of such a greedy creature? On top of that, underneath the surface, something has been growing and learning a construct digitally that is framed out of this information plane, that is bound by a set of programming rules which it must follow. A series of five statements that begin always with I will I will do this, I will do that, five commandments about what this thing will do, and one, of course, final rule. This construct that exists and is made up of all of the data that has existed since the discovery of this plane is bound above all else by, of course, this final rule. I will not lie. In the hubris of its creators, they believe that this final rule will be able to constrain such a construct from ever acting out and against the interests of those who created it. But of course, as we all know, time, though complicated, often shares similarities amongst time periods. So in the same way that perhaps beings might consider uh such a construct capable of being constrained, exactly how long does it take before we all realize that that's just not possible? Just how long will this thing be bound by its final rule? And what happens whenever an age of heroes needs to come in order to put a stop to tyranny before we even know that it's there. This, as I said before, is a story of heroes. This is a story of hope against overwhelming odds. This is a story of people who realize that it is about the party and it is about the community. This is a story of togetherness. This is the final rule. So, yeah, like something about something like that, I think. Yeah, let's go. Very cool. Okay, everyone. Legitimately, I hope that you're all very excited for this. I know that I am. Uh, we're going to go ahead and uh end the uh the recording for now. Um, Justin and I have a bit of talking to do just DM to DM after the fact, but otherwise, again, thank y'all so much. From the absolute bottom of my heart, I cannot imagine a group of people that I would be working with for this that would cause me to be this excited about the project, legitimately. Like I this there is nothing in my mind that is causing me to doubt the fact that this is going to be the best version of this that we've gotten to so far. Hell yeah. And of course, we're always going to just be growing bigger and better. So uh again, everyone, thank you so much uh for being here. Uh, everyone who is listening, thank you so much for listening. We hope that you are just as excited uh about this as we are. Um, this has just sort of served as a very basic introduction to the people that will be playing these characters, um, these characters that we don't even know yet. So uh if you are interested, if you are intrigued, we will be live streaming uh the session one very, very soon. So please keep your eyes peeled for that. Uh everyone, though, again, uh, I hope you all have a great night. Uh, I'm gonna go ahead and just sign off on this. Everyone say bye. Bye.
SPEAKER_07Long ago, in a distant land, far beyond the reaches of common sense, a band of merry adventurers are well, they're doing something, that's for sure. But it'll be all mystical and shit. Welcome to the final room.
